Freeland Borough Council spent some money Monday night but tookno action on the borough manager's position.
Council accepted Paul Mendofik's resignation at a continuedmeeting April 28, after he spent eight days on the job, said councilPresident John Potoskie.
Council and the municipal authority must now decide the fate ofthe position, and council met in executive session both before andafter Monday's meeting. Some members of the municipal authorityboard were in attendance at the meeting Monday.
Spending
Council made a partial payment of $30,000 on its tax anticipationnote and purchased a radio for the fire department for $932 fromGreens Communications, which submitted the lowest of three quotes.
Council also bought one bulletproof vest at a cost not to exceed$1,200 with a matching grant and spent another $50 on an Internetcard from Verizon for the police vehicle.
Reimbursement
Solicitor Donald Karpowich told council he is applying forreimbursement of 75 percent of the funds the borough spent onenacting the stormwater management ordinance.
Street sweeping
An Alvin Street resident complained about the street sweepermissing his street, and wanted to know when it would be done.
Council members agreed to send the sweeper back next week afterpothole patching is complete with the machine the borough rented forthe week.
Materials
Initial quotes on materials to repair the fire departmentbuilding roof came in over $700, and two more quotes are beingsought.
Joseph Falatko
Potoskie read a note from the family of the late Joseph Falatko,a longtime news correspondent on the North Side-Freeland beat forthe Standard-Speaker. Falatko died April 11. He was 86.
"He will be deeply missed," Potoskie said.
Council continued its regular meeting to May 16 at 6:30 p.m.
