Vic: 90yo woman sexually assaulted in nursing home unit

MELBOURNE, Aug 24 AAP - A 90-year-old woman has been sexually assaulted in a nursing
home unit in Melbourne's outer-east.

She was was attacked in her unit at the Kirkbrae Presbyterian Homes Complex in Montrose
about 7pm (AEST) yesterday, Sexual Crimes Unit detectives said today.

Detective Inspector Tony Cecchin said the woman was taken to the Austin Hospital for
treatment, but was in a remarkable condition given her ordeal.

He said the offender may have been seen in the area just before the attack and urged
residents in the area to remain cautious.

"We would like this to be a timely reminder to local residents to be vigilant and ensure
their doors and windows are locked and secured at all times," he said.

"Do not open your door to strangers."

Meanwhile, police are still hunting a young man who punched an 83-year-old woman to
the ground before sexually assaulting her at Kangaroo Flat, near Bendigo in central Victoria
about 4.45pm yesterday.

A passer-by disturbed the attack when he heard the woman's cries for help, and the
offender rode off on a black BMX bike.

The woman was taken to Bendigo Base Hospital in a stable condition.
