NSW: Shoplifting and drug crimes increasing

New stats show shoplifting's becoming more common in New South Wales .. with thefts
from clothing stores up more than 30 per cent.

The state's Bureau of Crime Statistics says thefts from licensed premises were also
up by more than 18 per cent in the 12 months to September this year.

Overall .. stealing from retail stores is up by almost six per cent.

There's also been a huge increase in convictions for possession and use of ecstasy
and cocaine .. with ecstasy convictions up by almost half and cocaine convictions up by
40 per cent.

On the plus side .. robberies with a non-firearm weapon are down by about 11 per cent
.. stealing from motor vehicles is down 21 per cent and theft of motor vehicles is down
nine per cent.
