Qld: Storms cut power, rip off roofs in SE Qld

BRISBANE, Dec 13 AAP - Storms knocked out power to up to 40,000 homes and some houses
lost their roofs in the Brisbane and Sunshine Coast areas today.

Electricity distributor Energex said the storm knocked out supplies to a wide area,
including to 10,000 consumers in the Lockyer Valley where lightning brought down a major
power line.

The front passed through the Brisbane region shortly before 4pm (AEST), tearing roofs
from several houses on Brisbane's bayside before moving north to the Sunshine Coast.

"There's a large number of power lines down and we are working to restore power as
quickly as possible," an Energex spokeswoman said.

On Brisbane's bayside, State Emergency Service volunteers received 26 calls for help
in the bayside suburbs of Manly and Wynnum and four in the Redlands area to the south.

There were at least six properties with damaged roofs or fallen trees on the Sunshine Coast.
