FED:Monthly CPI to come at a cost

The price of measuring how much prices are going up .. is about to go up.

The Bureau of Statistics says it'll eventually produce a monthly consumer price index
.. but it'll come at a cost and could be three years away from its introduction.

The bureau's released the findings of its 16th review of the CPI today and it's found
many users want a monthly price gauge .. including the Reserve Bank .. rather than just
relying on the current quarterly measure.

While agreeing to the call .. the bureau says a monthly CPI can't be published until
within two to three years of receiving an initial six million dollar investment .. and
ongoing costs of 15 million per annum.
